Facilities
Les Ateliers du Bois d’Amour
PASCA’s studio facility, Les Ateliers du Bois d’Amour, was originally built as a barrel-making factory. The stone building has kept its character as a large, industrial warehouse and workshop. The building is right at the edge of town, near the river and the Bois d’Amour forrest immortalized in Paul Serusier’s landmark painting, The Talisman. PASCA studios offer secured student access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to housing studio classrooms and the students’ individual studios, Les Ateliers du Bois d’Amour houses a Student Lounge with shared computer access, a multi-format video system, a collection of films on DVD and Video Cassette, and vending machines and a limited kitchen for late-night refueling. Les Ateliers du Bois d’Amour is wi-fi enabled.
- Our studio facility is monitored and patrolled 24 hours a day, and all entrances have a keypad and secret code for after-hours student access.
- All PASCA participants are required to attend general orientation meetings that outline safety issues, procedures, and the understanding cultural differences.
- Emergency procedures are in place, including medical and general evacuation plans. In the case of any emergency, PASCA has outlined and specific plans for student, family, and home-institution dissemination of accurate and up-to-the minute information.
- All PASCA travel coordinators are required to carry an international cell phone to facilitate emergency communications.
- Students are given in-studio access to free telephones with posted local, 24-hour emergency contacts.
Centre International d’Art Contemporain
The Centre International d'Art Contemporain (CIAC) is an international contemporary art center located within Les Ateliers du Bois d’Amour. Artists from all over the world as well as local artists exhibit in regularly changing solo and group shows. All PASCA students, under the direction of the faculty, are invited each session to prepare an end of session show. During this experience, they gain real-world experience in dealing with hanging and pricing work, hosting an opening, developing an articulate artist’s statement, and creating an exposition catalog. CIAC also houses PASCA’s lecture hall, where visiting artists and faculty give presentations both about their work and the contemporary art scene.
Pension Gloanec
PASCA’s administrative offices, library, and art history classroom are located in the beautifully restored Pension Gloanec, a historic building in the center of Pont-Aven where numerous artists from the original Pont-Aven School of Artists, including Paul Gauguin, lodged. The Pension also houses a bookstore selling current books and magazines in French and English, as well as art and school supplies, and sundries. The Pension Gloanec is wi-fi enabled.
Musée de Pont-Aven
Students are encouraged to use the library of the renowned Musée de Pont-Aven, as well as its permanent collection of paintings, prints, drawings, and documentation. PASCA students enjoy free access to the museum.
